Lower Roxbury Coalition (LRC) is a resident-led group of 43 organizations, agencies and constituents of the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. The Coalition encourages dialogue and action on development, housing, transportation, service needs, institutional growth, business development, and other issues that impact community residents.
The group evolved from the “We Have A Dream Coalition” formed in 1992 in response to a city initiative entitled Healthy Boston. Today, LRC is a resident-led organization comprised of dozens of organizations, agencies and residents of the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston.
The Coalition is funded through a multi-year grant from the Community Connections of the Massachusetts Department of Social Services to support community-building efforts by helping residents, specifically those who are low-income or disenfranchised to gain access to basic opportunities and services. Ongoing support and family services in the Roxbury neighborhood include family nurturing, youth programming, educational opportunities, workforce development, information and service referral, and community empowerment.
Lower Roxbury Coalition works with residents and organizations throughout the community to assess the needs of the community and collaborate to meet those needs.
Churches are a tremendous resource for the Coalition. St Katharine Drexel and the First Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry are central to the lives of many residents and provide the spiritual and volunteer base for coalition initiatives.
